Midwest Youth Music Spring Concert Shines Needed Spotlight to the Arts
The Midwest Youth Choirs completed their Spring concert at Hammond Central High School Wednesday, May 15.
Leonard’s kindness lion project, inspired by the book “How to be a Lion,” by Ed Vere continued their parade from Read Across Hammond Week. The colorful boards lined the stage of the concert, carried out by guests from the School City of Hammond.
The younger students in choir level 1, led by director Bob Miligan, performed childhood classics and songs from musicals.
Cindy Rivera from the Hammond Public Library spoke about the importance the reading and the free summer reading program offered to the community.
Students in Midwest Youth Choir Level 2, directed by Bryan Johnson, performed a selection international and uplifting songs. Local singer Jonathan Joseph joined all of the choir students to close the concert with a performance of “You Raise Me Up.”
Summer choir registration is still open for students ages 7-16 from any zip code. Continuing arts education through the summer is more important than ever. Help the choir program reach 50 singers!
