Book Brigade Summer Action

The Book Brigade is meeting monthly through the Summer to plan upcoming Fall Book Brigade walks and new initiatives that promote the joy of reading. The next Planning Meeting is Tuesday, July 23 from 6-7 pm!

On Saturday June 22, the Book Brigade hosted a summer Volunteer/Book Drop-off day. Ten volunteers gathered to donate new books, help label and organize the growing Book Brigade Collection. The Book Brigade Book Drop was also an overwhelming success!

Over 800 Harry Potter books were donate as the culmination of a project organized by BBB4E Board Member Shelley Boyer.

The Gaia Movement also donated several boxes. We are still counting the exact total but over 2,000 books were added to the Book Brigade Collection.

Thank you to all of the book donors and the volunteers who helped sort and label. Stay tuned for information about upcoming book distributions in the community. We are still in need of volunteers to join our planning meetings and walks.

Fall Book Brigade Walks are being organized for Tuesday evenings, with rain dates on Thursday. We plan to bring books to neighborhoods in Hammond, East Chicago, and Gary. We are looking for community support to determine areas to walk. More information at BBB4E.org/Book-Brigade

In June, books were distributed at Hammond’s Juneteenth Celebration at Martin Luther King Jr. Park. Thank you to Hammond Parks Board, Montessori Children’s Schoolhouse and Hammond Community Planning Office for collaborating to promote literacy!
