Summer Midwest Youth Choir to Promote the Arts through Singing and Poetry

Midwest Youth Choir (MYC) classes are returning this summer. Classes are held weekly Wednesday evenings starting June 14 at Hammond Public Library, 564 State St, Hammond, IN 46320. Students will grow their foundation of music and enjoy a community of engaged peers.

Each level of the choir meets weekly one night a week for a one-hour class. Students ages 5-7 enjoy Choir Level 1, or Let's Sing!, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and are learning to sing properly with correct diction and music theory for their level. Some are building their vocabularies, which gives them more confidence to sing and present themselves on and off stage.

For ages 8-17, Midwest Youth Choir Level 2 meets from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and offers continued music education and unique performance experiences. This summer choir level 2 students will perform at a Native American Pow-Wow at St. Joseph’s Church, 5304 Hohman Ave. in downtown Hammond on Saturday, June 24 and participate in an evening poetry workshop held at Gibson Woods Nature Preserve, 6201 Parrish Ave, along with other arts experiences in Hammond and Northwest Indiana broadly.

No auditions are required for either level. Students are welcome from any school in any zip code.
